Box Score

(San Diego) - USF followed a four-run outburst in the first inning with a season-high nine runs coming in the second as the Diamond Dons pounded San Diego 14-4 in West Coast Conference baseball action Saturday at Cunningham Stadium. San Francisco (4-13, 1-1 WCC) snapped a four-game losing streak to the Toreros (9-12, 1-1 WCC).

After coming up one run short yesterday in the WCC opener for both teams, USF immediately put Saturday's contest out of reach. The Diamond Dons pounded a season-high 17 hits, and capitalized on four USD errors. The Toreros scored four runs off seven hits.

Eight USF starters collected at least one hit and four drove in at least two runs, led by sophomore infielder Royce Fukuroku, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman outfielder had a big day for the Dons, on a 3-for-5, double two RBI afternoon. Junior infielder Armand Gaerlan and senior designated hitter Ryan Sittauer each drove in a couple and Sittauer tripled for the first time this season. Infielder Craig Click enjoyed a 2-for-4 day with a triple and two RBI.

Senior right-hander Bryan Williams (1-1) pitched well for USF, staked to a big lead allowing three runs (two earned) off just five hits in 7.0 innings of work.

Sophomore right-handed starter Sean Warlop (2-3), suffered the loss for San Diego, allowing seven runs off six hits in just one inning. Torero freshman right-handed reliever Gillespie did a nice job for USD, pitching allowing just one run off five hits and also struck out 10 in 7.2 innings of relief.

USF takes on the Toreros in the rubber match Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Cunningham Stadium.
