USF Falls at Loyola Marymount 16-10 in West Coast Conference Baseball
May 9, 2003 (Los Angeles) - San Francisco posted 10 runs off 15 base hits, but Loyola Marymount erupted for 16 runs off a season-high 24 base hits to take a 16-10 West Coast Conference baseball decision Friday at George Page Stadium. USF (22-28, 15-13 WCC) falls one game behind San Diego who won at Portland today in the West Division race with each team having two games remaining in the league schedule. The Lions (23-27, 10-15 WCC) snapped a 10-game losing streak. Senior Ryan Sittauer went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI on a career day, while junior shortstop Armand Gaerlan went 3-for-4 with an RBI double for the Dons. Senior right-handed starter Bryan Williams (5-4) got roughed up, allowing eight runs off 11 hits in 4.0 innings of work and suffered the loss. Junior right-hander Kyle Huddy (4-4) earned the win for the Lions allowing six runs off 10 hits in 4.2 innings. Every LMU batter collected at least two base hits, while junior infielder Josh Whitesell went 3-for-5 with a two-run homerun in the second and a three-run blast in the fourth inning, finishing 3-for-5 with six RBI. San Francisco scored three runs in the third, fifth, sixth innings and battled back, but could not come all the way back against the Lions. Trailing 10-6 USF cut the margin to one, with their three-run sixth, but LMU responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to seize control.
USF returns to action Saturday in game three against the Lions. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM at George Page Stadium.
