Box Score

(Los Angeles) - San Francisco bounced back Saturday with a 9-7 victory against Loyola Marymount in West Coast Conference action at George Page Stadium. USF (23-28, 16-13 WCC) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and survived a furious late LMU (23-28, 10-16 WCC) rally for the victory.

Freshman Don right-handed relief pitcher Patrick McGuigan (2-0) earned the victory allowing just one run on two hits in the final 3.1 innings of the contest. The Lions were led by Joe Frazee who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Jason Howard and Joe Jacobitz both posted three hits for USF.

After USF scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning, the Dons added to their advantage with four runs in the third. USF strung together five singles in the frame off LMU starting pitcher Vince Cordova and were aided by the second of three LMU errors.

The Dons continued their hot hitting in the fourth inning with three more runs. The frame was highlighted by a Cy Donald double, as the sophomore scored his third run of the game.

USF starting pitcher Kevin Rose was cruising until the bottom of the fourth inning. LMU's Joshua Whitesell led off the frame with the Lions' first hit of the game. Chris Pettit and Frazee also reached base, before Jonathan Oller doubled down the leftfield line to drive in both Whitesell and Pettit. Lion freshman James Cooper followed with a sacrifice fly ball to plate Frazee, bringing the Lions to within 7-3.

The Lions continued their comeback with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. After Joe Silva and Jonathan Higashi led off the stanza with base hits, Frazee provided a two-RBI single.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, LMU tied the game at seven. Lion designated hitter Matt White doubled to rightfield and was followed by RBI singles by Billy Lockin and Silva.

With the score deadlocked at 7-7, San Francisco posted four more singles in the top of the seventh inning, scoring two more runs for a 9-7 advantage.

USF concludes WCC play with the rubber match of their three-game series against LMU tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM. San Francisco searches for their third consecutive league series victory.
