USF Scores 12 Runs in the Fifth Downing Portland 14-2 in WCC Baseball

(Portland, OR) - USF erupted for 12 runs in the fifth and cruised to a 14-2 West Coast Conference victory against Portland Sunday afternoon at Pilot Stadium. USF (26-29, 13-14 WCC) completes the season series sweep of the Pilots (10-41, 5-22 WCC).
San Francisco's offense exploded for 19 hits, including eight in the fifth as the Dons pummeled Pilot pitching. 12 hitters collected at least one base hit and six collected two, led by sophomore outfielder Jonnie Knoble on a 3-for-4, double, RBI day. Senior shortstop Armand Gaerlan went 1-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 23 games - a new USF record.
Senior infielder Chris Genung finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and seven additional hitters drove in at least one run in the contest.
Senior right-hander Kevin Rose (5-7) earned the win for USF, allowing one run off four hits in 6.0 innings and tallied six strikeouts.
USF returns to action when they travel south on Highway 101 for a Tuesday game against #1 Stanford. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM at Sunken Diamond.
