USF Falls 3-1 at #1 Stanford in Baseball Action
May 18, 2004
(Palo Alto, CA) - USF played well, but dropped a 3-1 decision to #1 Stanford Tuesday night at Sunken Diamond in non-conference baseball action. The Diamond Dons (26-30) got a strong start from freshman left-hander Scott Cousins, making his fourth career appearance and first start, but could not down the Cardinal (40-10), who improve to 23-1 at home this season.
Senior shortstop Armand Gaerlan went 2-for-4 to lead the way for USF offensively and extended his record hitting streak to 24 games. Sophomore Stefan Gartrell drove in Gaerlan on an RBI single in the fourth for the Diamond Dons lone run of the contest.
USF returns to action Friday when they host Pepperdine in West Coast Conference action in the final series of the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM to accommodate USF graduation ceremonies.
