USF Baseball Falls 12-4 Against Pepperdine in WCC Action

(San Francisco) - USF dropped a 12-4 decision against Pepperdine in West Coast Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond. The two teams will play the series rubber match Sunday in a 1:00 PM start - the 2004 regular season finale. Senior day festivities honoring USF's 10-member graduating class will begin at approximately 12:45 PM.
USF (26-31, 14-15 WCC) fell behind early and were unable to generate the offense they needed against the Waves (25-30, 18-11 WCC) who tallied 17 base hits in the contest.
Senior Joe Jacobitz finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI on a two-run single in the third, while senior shortstop Armand Gaerlan finished his day 2-for-5 with an RBI double. Junior infielder Cy Donald went 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot for the Diamond Dons.
Pepperdine plated three runs in the first and added another in the second to take a 4-0 lead before San Francisco countered in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs. The Waves increased their lead to 5-2 with a run scoring on a balk in the fifth. Trailing7-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, USF scored a run on Gaerlan's RBI double. The Waves added a five-run eighth to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore infielder David Uribes went 3-for-4 and scored twice, while junior infielder Steve Kleen went 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI. Freshman catcher Chad Tracy did much of the heavy lifting for the Waves on a 3-for-5 day with a two-run double and four RBI.
