Diamond Dons Fall to Pepperdine 1-0 in Season Finale
May 30, 2010
(Malibu, CA) - On senior day at Pepperdine, the Waves (24-30, 12-9 WCC) pulled out the sweep of the Dons, taking a 1-0 win at Eddy D. Field Stadium. USF (28-28, 10-11 WCC) finishes the season fourth in West Coast Conference standings.
Pepperdine pushed one across in the first, scoring off an RBI single from third baseman Colin Rooney, and that would be all either team could get. Waves senior Robert Dickmann (8-5) tossed a complete game shutout, giving up just four hits and striking out nine.
USF's junior right-hander Matt Hiserman (1-5) gave up the run in the first, but settled down over the next six innings and kept Pepperdine off the scoreboard. Hiserman struck out four and did not walk a batter in 7.0 innings.
Senior catcher Ryan Lipkin led the Dons with two hits. Sophomore first baseman Matt Chavez and junior right fielder Connor Bernatz rounded out the Dons four hits with singles.
This concludes the 2010 season. Join us at the annual baseball banquet on Tuesday at Kabuki Hotel. Drinks start at 6:00 PM with dinner to follow at 6:30 PM.
