Cal Poly Tops USF in Baseball Behind Blasdell
San Francisco, CA - Senior pitcher Jared Blasdell threw a complete game four hitter to lead the Cal Poly Mustangs to a 5-1 decision over USF Friday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond in the city. Blasdell (1-0) allowed his only run in the first inning when Jason Howard and Armand Gaerlan opened the Dons first with consecutive hits. After Tag Bozied was hit by a pitch, the Dons Jeramy Janz hit into a double play scoring the lone Dons run. Blasdell struck out seven in facing just 31 batters, four over the minimum to notch his first win. Meanwhile, USF pitcher Jesse Foppert was pitched well, also allowing just one run and four hits before being relieved by David Seccombe in the seventh. Seccombe (0-1) was ineffective, hitting Philip Thompson and then walking three straight before Kevin Tillman gave the Mustangs a 4-1 lead with a two-run single. Bryan Gant hit an inside the park home run in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring.
Cal Poly improved to 7-1 on the season, while USF dropped to 4-4. The two teams will close out the series with
a doubleheader beginning tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
