USF Baseball Dominates UC Davis, 9-2
After flirting with a no-hitter through more than eight innings, UC Davis slumbering bats awoke in time to send a homerun over the right field fence in the top of the ninth Tuesday at Benedetti Diamond. Dennis Flippens homer was one of the few highlights for the Aggies (4-12) who allowed nine USF (10-6) runs off 15 hits. Sophomore right-hander Chris Gossert (2-0) collected the win for the Dons after going five no-hit innings while striking out five. Freshman right-hander David Seccombe and junior right-hander Steve Moses combined for three additional innings of no-hit baseball for the Dons who have won seven of their last 10 outings. Senior All-American infielder Taggert Bozied came through with a 4-for-5 day with double and two RBI and junior infielder Jesse Foppert went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Freshman infielders Armand Gaerlan and Nick Cirbo each knocked in a pair of runs for the Dons. USF opened the game strong, posting four runs in the first and fourth innings and added a single run in the third. UC Davis scored a run in the sixth on an error, and Flippen connected on a solo shot in the ninth to wrap up the Aggies scoring. John Holtkamp (1-2) suffered the loss for UC Davis, allowing five runs off seven hits in three innings of work.
