Baseball Beats San Jose State, 6-2
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- USF scored twice in the fourth inning and three times in the fifth en route to a 6-2 non-conference win over San Jose State Thursday night at Municipal Stadium. USF third baseman Taggert Bozied increased his hitting streak to 20 games with three hits including two doubles. His two-run double in the fifth inning capped the Dons scoring. Danny Trumble added two hits for USF. Bozied led off the second with a single and later scored on an error for a 1-0 USF lead. San Jose State tied the score in the bottom of the inning when John Fagan led off with a triple and scored on Jamie Hiegel's sacrifice fly. The Dons scored two runs on three hits in the fourth to regain the lead, and added three in the fifth. Tony Tognetti's sacrifice fly plated Brandon Macchi for SJSU's other run. Both teams had seven hits in the game, but USF also took advantage of four Spartan errors. USF hosts Santa Clara Saturday and Sunday in a three-game West Coast Conference series. The Dons also host San Jose State next Tuesday in a make-up of a of a Feb. 15 contest which was rained out.
