Senior Outfielder Pat Walsh (3-5) Moves into Second Place On USF Career Hits Chart With 217

USF could not solve Gonzaga senior starter Steve Bennett (4-2), who allowed five runs (three earned) and scattered seven hits to pick up the complete game 11-5 victory against the Dons March 25 in West Coast Conference play at Benedetti Diamond.

The Bulldogs (12-11, 5-4 WCC) used a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run homerun by Eric Rodland off Don's junior starter Jesse Mena (3-2). With the loss, USF falls to 16-11, 3-5 in league play as they played their second consecutive game without injured junior All-American Tagg Bozied.

San Francisco took a 1-0 lead into the top of the fourth before Gonzaga's explosion where they sent nine batters to the plate. USF would add a run in the fifth and ninth innings and posted a two-run eighth, but never seriously challenged Bennett who tossed a complete game and struck out three.

Offensively the Dons were paced by senior outfielder Pat Walsh (3-4, RBI) who surpassed Jermaine Clark (1995-97) for second place on the USF career hits list with 217. Junior shortstop Jared Carvalho (2-3) also produced for the Dons. USF managed no extra base hits for just the third time this season.

Rodland hit his first career homerun for the Bulldogs and centerfielder Jason Bay (5) hit a solo homerun to lead off the fifth and finished the day 3-3 and was a triple shy of the cycle.

USF hosts Gonzaga tomorrow in the final game of the three game WCC series. First pitch is 1:00 PM at Benedetti Diamond.
