(Berkeley, CA) - A walk-off homerun by Cal’s Carson White in the bottom of the 10th sent USF to a 2-1 loss in non-conference baseball action Tuesday at Evans Diamond. The Dons stranded 11 runners on base, despite generating six base hits and also failed to capitalize on four walks and three Golden Bear errors. With the loss, USF has dropped six straight and falls to 14-16 overall, while Cal improves to 19-14 on the season.

As has been the recurring theme during the skid, USF has generated hits, but seldom with runnners in scoring position and the majority of the offense happened with two outs in the inning. Such was the case in the seventh inning when the Dons collected two walks and a pair of fielders choices to tie the game at 1-1 off Cal’s right-hander Blake Read.

Senior All-American Taggert Bozied, took advantage of his first opportunity at the plate with a runner at third base this season after nearly 120 and scored senior outfielder Jason Heise in the seventh frame.

USF got a strong outing from freshman right-hander David Seccombe, who went 5.0 innings in his first career start. Seccombe recorded a pair of strikeouts and allowed just one run off two hits. Frehsman right-hander Kevin Rose (2-2) sufferd the loss for the Dons after allowing the homerun to White. Ryan Lubner (1-0) picked up the win for the Bears.

San Francisco returns to action on Friday when they host the Pilots of the University of Portland in West Coast Conference action. First pitch at Benedetti Diamond in scheduled for 3:00 PM.
