Soares Launches Eighth Homerun of the Season
USF baseball downed Pacific in the second meeting between the two squads in the last week and avenged a 10-1 pasting in Stockton where the Dons managed just one hit. Today USF's pitchers were up to the challenge as they allowed just six hits in a 5-3 victory in non-conference action at Benedetti Diamond April 4.

With the victory, USF improves to 19-14 on the season, while Pacific falls to 18-13.

San Francisco got great pitching from freshman starter Jesse Martina (2-0) who pitched five complete allowing just two runs (none earned) in the first and struck out three Tigers. Freshman Ryan Ayers entered the game in the sixth and threw 3 2/3 in his longest outing of the season and allowed just one run off three hits and recorded five K's in the 15 batters he faced.

Senior starter Gavin Marshall (1-1) suffered the loss for the Tigers and allowed five runs on 10 hits and struck out four.

USF was paced offensively by junior infielder Chad Soares who launched his eighth homerun of the season with a solo shot to lead off the fourth inning. Soares finished 2-4 with a pair of RBI. Senior infielder Tony Hurtado also collected two base hits and finished 2-4 on the day.

USF travels to Portland this weekend for West Coast Conference play against the Pilots in a three game set beginning Friday at 3:00 PM.
