Dons Sweep Baseball Double-Header Against Portland, 4-8, 2-1
USF Gets Complete Game Victories From Chris Thogersen and Kevin Rose Taggert Bozied Crushes Three Homeruns Apparently blondes really do have more fun. Just three days after suffering their sixth straight loss to Cal, every member of the USF baseball team bleached their heads blonde and it paid off with a pair of West Coast Conference victories against Portland as the Dons took game one 4-2 behind a complete game from junior right-hander Chris Thogersen and won game two convincingly 8-1 behind a complete game from freshman right-hander Kevin Rose and a pair of homeruns from senior All-American Taggert Bozied. San Francisco (16-16, 6-8 WCC) hosts Portland (16-16, 5-9 WCC) in the final game of the three-game series Sunday at 1:00 PM at Benedetti Diamond. Rose Strikes Out 10 In Complete Game Win Freshman right-hander Kevin Rose pitched the second complete game turned in by the USF pitching staff and the Dons provided plenty of run support to win the nightcap of the double-header 8-1. Rose (3-2) was dominant on the hill for the Dons with 10 strikeouts and allowed just one run off eight hits and did not issue a single walk. Junior outfielders Jason Howard and Jeramy Janz each had two hit outings in the second game, while Bozied also connected on two hits to go along with three RBI including a pair of homeruns (7, 8). Kyle Corra (2-2) suffered the loss for the Pilots after lasting just 3.1 innings, allowing four runs off five hits and issued four walks. USF Snaps Skid, Sink Pilots 4-2 Junior right-hander Chris Thogersen pitched a complete game and Bozied launched his first of three homeruns of the day to lead USF to a 4-2 victory against Portland in West Coast Conference baseball action Saturday at Benedetti Diamond. The Pilots got on the board first with a two-run homerun by Cory Lunde in the first inning, but Thogersen would not allow another Pilot to cross the plate in the remainder of the contest. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Dons and halted the Pilots three-game win streak. Thogersen (1-3) collected his second complete game victory of his career after allowing just two runs off eight hits and struck out four while issuing just one walk. Matt Hollod (2-3) pitched a complete game in the losing effort for the Pilots after surrendering four runs on eight hits, while striking out seven.
Bozied led the way for the Dons offensively with a 2-for-4, homerun and two RBI, while junior catcher Steve Booth hammered an
RBI double on a 1-for-4 afternoon. Janz also came through with a 2-for-3 day and collected a double and an RBI in the opening
game.
