Eight USF Student Athletes Named to WCC Spring All-Academic Squads

Eight USF student-athletes, including four baseball players, were named to the West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic teams released today (May 26) by the league office. The USF baseball team had the most nominations of any team in the Spring with eight.
Making the squad from baseball were shortstop Armand Gaerlan (3.34 in Business Admin.), first baseman Chris Genung (3.72 Finance), pitcher Kevin Rose (3.79 Biology) and third baseman Andrew Smith (3.63 Media Studies). Also nominated were pitcher Brian Borgmann, catcher Nick Cirbo, pitcher T.J. Franco and outfielder Johnnie Knoble.
USF Male Student Athlete of the Year Robert Frye, who won medalist honors at the WCC championships, was named to the golf squad with a 3.48 in Finance.
Women's Tennis placed two on the squad, both juniors, Michelle Duncan (3.60 Int'l. Business) and Anna Skogerboe (3.67 Accounting). Men's Tennis was represented by junior Axel Elvik (3.54 Int'l. Business).
The 2004 West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic teams honor some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete. At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. In order to be eligible they must have a 3.20 GPA and be a key player on the team.
