Six Diamond Dons Sign Professional Contracts

June 25, 2007

(San Francisco) - Six USF baseball players are set to enter the next phase of their careers after signing professional contracts. Left-hander Aaron Poreda, the Diamond Dons first ever first round selection in the Major League Draft, signed with the Chicago White Sox.

Infielder Brian Chavez (New York Yankees), right-handers Daniel Morales (Cleveland) and John Quine (Oakland) and Luke Sommer (Chicago Cubs) also signed minor league deals with their respective organizations. In addition, left-hander Cole Stipovich has signed an independent deal with the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Northern League.

With six Diamond Dons overall signing professional contracts, it marks the most in a single class in program history and the five players signing minor league deals is also the most in history. Previously five USF players had signed professional contracts in 2000 and four entered terms with minor league affiliates in 2000, 2004 and 2006.
