USF's Royce Fukuroku Meets with Mariners' Ichiro

June 29, 2005

USF senior second baseman Royce Fukuroku, a key player on the most successful Dons' baseball team ever, met his favorite player, Ichiro Wednesday at the Oakland Coliseum.

They met prior to the Oakland-Seattle game in a meeting planned last month. AP sports writer Janie McCauley, who did a feature on Fokuroku during the Dons' season worked out the details.

Royce presented Ichiro with some candy and a USF baseball jacket, and Ichiro said that he heard that Fukuroku "had a lot of pop in his bat."

Fukuroku, an honorable mention all-WCC player hit .329 for the 38-18 USF team this spring.
