Two Diamond Dons Participate in Cal Ripken Senior Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game

July 22, 2008

USF's junior right-hander Chase Tigert and sophomore right-hander Matt Hiserman were named to the West All-Star Team for the Cal Ripken Senior Collegiate Baseball League. The West came back for an 8-5 win after falling to the East 4-0 to start the contest.

Tigert is currently 1-1, 3.94 ERA in seven appearances and two starts. In 18.0 innings pitched he has 18 strikeouts and opponents are only batting .190 against him.

Hiserman was named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 14 to July 20. Hiserman began the week by setting the Cal Ripken, Sr. League record for most saves in a season. The righthander recorded his ninth save of the year against the Braves on July 14, allowing one hit and striking out two batters in 1.1 innings to close out the game. Hiserman then made his first start of the season in the second game of a doubleheader against the Redbirds on July 19. He went the distance, scattering three hits and striking out a season-high nine batters in the shutout win to run his record to 3-0 on the year. Hiserman has not allowed a run or a walk in 30.2 innings this season. He was the Co-Pitcher of the Week from June 30 to July 6.

Both Tigert and Hiserman play for Bethesda Big Train (Bethesda, MD), who hosted the All-Star game and festivities at their home ballpark, Shirley Povich Field, on July 22, 2008. At 27-11, Bethesda is currently second place, four games behind Youse's Maryland Orioles.
