Rain Forces Delay of Baseball Fall World Series
Nov. 20, 2009
Anthony D'Albora - (San Francisco) - Inclement weather on Friday afternoon forced game four of the Fall World Series to be pushed to Saturday. The two teams will play a double header on Saturday, with the first game slated to begin at 11:15am at Benedetti Diamond. The series currently sits with the Gold Team holding a 2-1 advantage. Game four starters, Cameron Love for the Green Team and Matt Lujan for the Gold Team, are both scheduled to start the first game of the double header. Game two is scheduled to be Doug Murray for the Gold Team facing off with Freshman Abe Bobb for the Green Team. When asked about how the rain has affected the players, Gold Team manager Jon Norfolk explained, "Our guys weren't really affected by the rain. We are always ready to compete and until someone told us otherwise we were ready to go to war today." In other breaking news it has been reported by an anonymous source that the Green Team's Tom Barry, known as the Windy City Wizard, has been cleared as eligible to hit. Barry is rehabbing from an injury, but team doctors have decided he is healthy enough to take at bats in the series for the Green Team. Barry will be used as a designated hitter for the remainder of the series.
"I just want to thank the commissioner's office for giving me the chance to get out there and compete as much as I can," Barry explained of the opportunity to get in to the upcoming games. "It is tough to watch these games from the sidelines. Our team has fought hard thus far and I plan to do my best to contribute at the plate in an effort to continue to chip away at this thing."
Initial calls to player representative Troy Nakamura on the announcement were not returned, but we did speak with Commissioner Giarratano on his decision to activate Barry from the Disabled List. "We felt that if the team doctors cleared Tom to participate that meant he was ready to go. The league offices wonder if these moves by the Green Team aren't just an effort to shake things up in reaction to being down in the series or the unfortunate injuries they have been saddled with thus far. But sometimes it takes something a little crazy to shake things up and get back on track. We wish Tom good luck and we're excited to see this series get back to the action tomorrow."
