John Cox Named to Venezuela National Basketball Team
Former Dons basketball star John Cox has been named to the Venezuela National Team. A two-time All-West Coast Conference First Team selection, Cox played on the Hilltop from 1999-2005 before embarking on a successful professional career in Europe, most recently with the STB Le Havre (ProA) in France.

Former University of San Francisco star guard and head coach Jim Brovelli headlines three Dons set for induction into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame Saturday, May 19 at Patio Espanol Restaurant. In addition to the 1984 West Coast Conference Coach of the Year, prep baseball coaching legend John Donohue and former USF baseball and football standout Gary Musante will be enshrined.

San Francisco men’s basketball announces two quality additions to its roster as 6-5 guard Matt Glover (Orange, CA) and 6-6 guard De’End Parker have signed scholarship agreements as announced today by head coach Rex Walters. Both Glover (Penn State) and Parker (UCLA) come to the Hilltop as Division I transfers from power conferences.

San Francisco men’s basketball is pleased to announce the signing of 6-2 guard Avry Holmes (Salem, OR) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play for the University of San Francisco, beginning in the 2012-13 season as announced today by head coach Rex Walters. A two-time Oregon all-state selection, Holmes helped North Salem High School to back-to-back league championships.

Justin Bauman to Join Danny Manning’s Staff at Tulsa
Justin Bauman, who has spent the last four seasons at the University of San Francisco on Rex Walters staff, is set to join Danny Manning’s new coaching staff at Tulsa as announced today. Bauman spent his first two seasons on the Hilltop as the Director of Basketball Operations before being elevated to assistant coach prior to the 2010-11 season.

UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC ACCEPTS INVITATION TO JOIN WEST COAST CONFERENCE IN 2013-14 ACADEMIC YEAR
The West Coast Conference announced today that the University of the Pacific has formally accepted an invitation to join the WCC on July 1, 2013, for the 2013-14 academic year. Pacific was one of five founding members of the WCC (then the California Basketball Association) in 1952-53 and remained in the Conference until 1971.

USF Men's Basketball dropped their season opener to the Bison of North Dakota State, 73-65, in the the opening game of the Hilltop Challenge. The Dons were led by junior forward Perris Blackwell's 23 points to go along with 11 from senior forward Angelo Caloiaro and 10 from sophomore guard Cody Doolin. The West Coast Conference and ESPN have announced that a minimum of 30 men’s basketball games involving WCC schools will air nationally on the ESPN family of networks this season as part of the 2011-12 conference schedule. The increase in national exposures is a result of the new eight-year extension of the WCC’s partnership with ESPN.

The 34th annual Shootout features eight teams on the men’s side, four on the women’s and runs through November 27.

USF Basketball Hall-of-Famer Joe McNamee Passes Away
Joe McNamee, a starting forward on USF’s 1949 National Invitational Tournament Championship squad has passed away. He was 84. A 1969 inductee into the USF Athletics Hall of Fame, McNamee was a key component for Pete Newell’s Dons. McNameee was the second leading scorer for San Francisco, averaging 10.7 points on a front line featuring All-American Center Don Lofgran.

Moustapha Diarra Signs Professional Contract in France Pro A
USF’s Moustapha Diarra has signed a professional contract to play basketball for the Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez in his native France. Diarra was a two-year letter-winner for the Dons and helped San Francisco to the quarterfinals of the 2011 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament in his final season on the Hilltop.
