(San Francisco) – Today the West Coast Conference unveiled the schedule for the 2011-12 men's basketball conference season. San Francisco looks set to challenge in what figures to be one of the most competitive seasons in memory with the addition of Brigham Young.

"This could be the most competitive conference season from top to bottom in a long time," USF head coach Rex Walters said. "Six teams from our conference played in the postseason last year and it's only going to get more competitive. We're going to work really hard to give ourselves the best opportunity to compete for a championship in both the regular season and in the conference tournament. We are really excited about it. Our guys are fired up. We look forward to seeing all of our loyal fans on the Hilltop on game night."

USF opens the nine-team 2011-12 WCC season Thursday, December 29 at Pepperdine. The Dons host Loyola Marymount on New Year's Eve on the Hilltop for the 2011-12 home league lid-lifter.

San Francisco opens 2012 with a trip to play Brigham Young in Provo, UT on Saturday, January 7 and then take on 2011 WCC Regular Season Co-Champion Saint Mary's in Moraga Monday, January 9. The Dons travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on defending WCC Co-Champion Gonzaga Thursday, January 19 and then face Portland in the Rose City Saturday, January 21.

USF hosts Santa Clara Thursday, February 9, kicking off a highly challenging stretch to close the 2011-12 regular season featuring four of five games against 2011 postseason teams. San Francisco's final three-game homestand heading into the 2012 Zappos.com WCC Tournament features a game against Brigham Young Thursday, February 16, followed by a visit from Gonzaga Saturday, February 18. The Dons wrap the regular season against ancient rival Saint Mary's Saturday, February 25.
