Denny Hinson enters his first season as assistant basketball coach at USF and, along with coaching, will be in charge of coordinating student-athlete academics and recruiting. He will also be assisting in scouting and film exchange. "I am excited to welcome Denny to the coaching staff. His youthful enthusiasm will be a wonderful addition," said head coach Jessie Evans. Hinson most recently served as assistant coach at Bethune-Cookman for two seasons. Hinson spent several years serving as an assistant coach for other key collegiate basketball programs. While at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Hinson established himself as an elite recruiter, assisting in the recruitment of one of the best teams for the Dukes in the past decade. In 1997, Hinson began his coaching career as an assistant coach at his high school alma mater, DeLand High School, where as a player he scored over 1,000 points in his career. He received his first head coaching position at Satellite Beach High School in 2000. Hinson began his collegiate basketball career at the University of Central Florida. He transferred to Okaloosa-Walton Community College and finished his education at Indiana State in 1995. As a senior guard for the Sycamores, Hinson earned the "Larry Bird MVP Award" for leading the team in both scoring and rebounding. Hinson earned his Masters of Science Degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University. He is married to his wife, Shandris, and has two sons, nine-year-old Evan and six-year old Blake. in 2002. |
