Justin Piergrossi has made a name for himself after four years on the USF staff. He is known as a tireless worker and energetic assistant who is willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Justin joined USF after serving as an assistant coach at Hanover College of Indiana. Justin's duties at USF include coordinating recruiting, scouting, and coordinating team travel. His experience in basketball extends from NCAA Division I hoops to volunteer work with youth basketball programs. Piergrossi, 28, a 1997 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, specialized in coaching the team defense at Hanover, leading them to 9th place in the nation in team defense during his two years as an assistant. He has also interned with the NBA Philadelphia 76ers. Justin is also well known on the summer camp circuit having coached at the University of North Carolina, Kentucky, Maryland and Morgan Wootten's Basketball Camp at DeMatha Catholic High School. “Phil Mathews has instilled a great deal of pride and competitive spirit in this program. I hope to contribute to USF’s success under his leadership.” Coach Mathews has become a Piergrossi fan. "Justin has great organizational skills and his energy is a great asset to this program," said Mathews. "He has been a great addition to our staff both on and off the floor." Justin earned his Master's degree in Sport Management from USF in 2001. He is married to the former Amy Hoopes. They live in San Francisco. |
