Dons Fall To Surging Waves 93-80
Feb. 26, 2004
Yakhouba Diawara and Glen McGowan combined for 53 points as Pepperdine avenged a home loss in Malibu to USF in taking a 93-80 decision over the Dons Thursday night in San Francisco. The Waves improved to 9-4 in the WCC, while USF dropped to 6-7.
USF needs a home win Saturday over LMU in the regular season final to improve its WCC seeding. The Dons trailed throughout as Pepperdine took an early 16-4 lead and although USF cut the lead to 52-46 with 15:36 remaining, they could not catch the Waves, who shot 64.2% from the floor during the game.
The Dons were paced by 20 points by James Bayless, 16 by Tyrone Riley and 15 by Alvin Broussard. USF shot 50% from the floor in the game.
"This was our worst defensive effort of the year," said Coach Phil Mathews. "We need to get a big win Saturday night over Loyola Marymount."
It was the first time this year that USF has lost a game in which they have scored 64 points or more.
USF defeated the Waves 81-69 earlier in the season in Malibu.
