Dons Fall To Host Santa Clara In WCC Quarterfinals

Kyle Bailey scored 30 points to pace Santa Clara to a 81-75 win over USF in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference on the Broncos home floor, the Leavey Center Saturday night.The loss ends the season for USF at 17-14 and spoiled a career best 27 point effort by senior James Bayless.
The Broncos won the game by their hot shooting, making 7-14 three-pointers while the Dons struggled from behind the arc making just 3-15. Santa Clara, who plays Gonzaga Sunday night, improved to 16-15 on the season.
The game was the fifth straight year that USF has met the host team in the WCC tournament and the fourth time that the opened play against the host The Dons have failed to win any of those games on the opponents floor.
Santa Clara shot 52.8% for the contest, with USF hitting 50%.
The game was tied at 39 at the half as the Dons finished strong behind Bayless. The Dons had trailed 30-21 but Bayless scored nine points in a 18-9 run to close the score tied. Bayless led all first half scorers with 16 before intermission.
