Final Stats

Tyrone Riley scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds as the University of San Francisco won their fourth straight game Saturday night to defeat St. Joseph's 80-54 in the championship game of the Dons' Northwestern Mutual Shootout.

John Cox and Jerome Gumbs each scored 21 points for the Dons. Riley was named the tournament's most valuable player.

The Dons' largest lead was 29 points when the score stood at 63-34 with 11:09 to play in the second half. The team remained ahead by at least 20 points for the remainder of the game.

San Francisco (5-3) never trailed after scoring the first six points of the game and leading 12-4. A series of fast breaks, dunks and 3-pointers pushed that advantage to 19 points at halftime. Riley and Gumbs combined for 22 points during the first half.

The Dons shot 52 percent from the field and were 9-of-18 from 3-point range.

The leading scorer for St. Joseph's was Dwayne Jones with 15 points and 12 rebounds, but the Hawks committed 20 turnovers while the Dons had 11.

The game was delayed when the Hawks leading scorer, Chet Stachitas, injured his right ankle and was helped off the court. Stachitas scored a career-high 27 points in St. Joseph's victory against UC Davis Friday night.

The Hawks also lost their third-leading scorer when Pat Carroll fouled out with almost six minutes remaining in the contest.

St. Joseph's cut the deficit to four points, 17-13, midway through the first half but the Hawks would not get any closer.

The Dons are now 2-2 against St. Joseph. Last season, the Hawks defeated the Dons 84-52 in Philadelphia.

The Hawks (3-3) have more defeats than all of last season, when they were top ranked in the Associated Press poll.

UC Davis defeated Longwood 87-52 in the consolation game.
