USF Set to Induct Six into the Father Hubert "Hub" Flynn Athletic Hall of Fame

(San Francisco) - USF Legend and two-time soccer All-American Staale Soebye ('94), baseball star Tad Tassone ('73), basketball greats Wallace Bryant ('82) and Jamie Shadian ('99), soccer standout Serge Burenin ('61) and longtime USF athletic trainer Wally Hayes will be inducted into the University of San Francisco Hub Flynn Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, February 15, 2008 during the Dons Homecoming Festivities.

USF HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2008 INDUCTEE CAPSULES

Staale Soebye ('94) - USF Legend, midfielder Staale Soeybe led the Dons to the 1991 West Coast Conference Championship. Soebye earned All-American first team honors in 1993 and 1994 as well as four-time first team conference recognition.

Tad Tassone ('73) - An strong contact hitter, speedy centerfielder and super base stealer, Tad Tassone earned All-Conference honors in his sophomore and junior years. An outstanding player, Tad was a statistical leader in multiple categories.

Wallace Bryant ('82) - Considered one of the finest men's basketball centers in the West Coast Conference, two-time all-Conference honoree Wallace Bryant teamed with All-Americans Bill Cartwright and Quintin Daily to earn USF three consecutive West Coast Conference Championships and four NCAA tournaments berths.

Jamie Shadian '99 - As starting point guard, Jamie Shadian was crucial to USF's back-to-back-to-back West Coast Conference Tournament titles and subsequent NCAA tournament berths, including the Dons record-setting march to the 1996 NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Twice named to WCC Championship All-Tournament teams, Jamie ranked among the best in multiple USF and WCC career statistics.

Serge Burenin ('61) - A powerful halfback, Serge Burenin was a member of two conference championship teams and played in USF's second NCAA tournament appearance. Twice he earned all conference honors and in his last year with the Dons in 1961, he made second team All-American.

Wally Hayes - As the head men's athletic trainer for over 20 years, Wally Hayes was a true ambassador for USF athletics. Prior to his retirement in March 2002, he logged hundreds of thousands of miles traveling to 45 states and several foreign countries on behalf of the Green and Gold.

The Fr. Hubert "Hub" Flynn Athletic hall of Fame Dinner will begin with no-host cocktails at 6:00 pm at the McLaren Complex on the USF Campus. Dinner and the induction ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm.
