USF OPENS FINAL HOMESTAND VS. WAVES: San Francisco kicks off its final homestand of the 2009-10 season when it welcomes Pepperdine to the Hilltop Thursday, February 11. Winners of two of three, the Dons look to salvage a season split against the Waves, who have lost five straight since posting a 83-68 win against USF (1/16/10). The Dons take on Loyola Marymount Saturday, February 13 in the 2010 regular season home finale. USF will honor its senior class of Dontae Bryant, Dior Lowhorn and Blake Wallace in a special pregame ceremony on Saturday.
DONS IN THE WCC:
- USF's Bay Area products - Angelo Caloiaro (San Jose), Dior Lowhorn (San Francisco) & Kwame Vaughn (Oakland) combining for 38.4 points,15.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per league game
- USF out-rebounding opponents 35.3 - 33.0 rpg
- San Francisco 3-1 in games decided by five points or less during WCC play
- Dons attempt 22.2 free throws per WCC game. In 2009 USF averaged just 20.9
- In nine league games, seven Dons have reached double-digit scoring and seven players have pulled down at least five rebounds in a game
- The 87 points USF scored in its win vs. USD (1/10/10) were the most for the Dons in a WCC game since a 88-63 win vs. Pepperdine (3/3/08)
LOWHORN PASSES RUSSELL ON SCORING LIST: Preseason All-American Dior Lowhorn continues to charge up the USF career scoring lists and became the 30th USF player to surpass 1,000 career points in the Green and Gold with 22 points at Portland (1/15/09). Saturday at Saint Mary's, Lowhorn passed Naismith Hall-of-Famer Bill Russell (1953-56/1,636 points) for sole possession of seventh place on the list, finishing with 1,659 career points in 84 games for a 19.8 points per game average. Dons Hall-of-Famer Gerald Walker (1992-96) currently rates sixth on the all-time scoring ladder with 1,665 points and two-time All-American Ollie Johnson (1962-65) sits in fifth place at 1,668.

SCOUTING PEPPERDINE: The Waves travel to San Francisco toting a five-game losing streak and have not won since downing the Dons 83-68 in Malibu (1/16/10). Pepperdine opened West Coast Conference play at 3-0. The Waves average 68.6 points on .405 shooting, including a .361 clip from beyond the arc, to go along with 36.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Keion Bell keys Pepperdine at both ends of the floor, averaging 19.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists. Junior forward Mychel Thompson chips in 12.5 points and 5.4 boards, while sophomore forward Taylor Darby adds 6.1 points with a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game. Coaching veteran Tom Asbury is in his eighth overall season and second stint with the Waves. Asbury propelled the Waves to five postseason trips and three WCC titles while posting a 66-18 record from 1989-94. Asbury owns a career record of 226-187 in his 14th year and is 141-99 in Malibu.
