Dior Lowhorn Named to West Coast Conference First Team For the Third Time
March 1, 2010
(San Francisco) - USF senior honors candidate Dior Lowhorn was named to the 2010 All-West Coast Conference First Team as announced today by the league office. It marks the third straight first team selection for the preseason All-American, who ranks No. 4 in career scoring at the University of San Francisco with 1,755 points (19.7) entering the 2010 Zappos.com West Coast Conference Tournament.
For the third straight season, Lowhorn leads the team in scoring (18.4) and rebounding (6.6) and ranks second among WCC scoring leaders, sixth in rebounds and is sixth in free throw percentage at .814 (131-161). Lowhorn ranks 20th in USF career rebounding with 619 caroms and counting.
One of the most prolific offensive talents to ever wear the Green and Gold, Lowhorn is one of just three players to score 600 or more points twice in a career. USF All-Americans Quintin Dailey (755, 1982; 693, 1981) and Bill Cartwright (710, 1979; 600, 1977) were the first to accomplish the feat. Lowhorn ranked fourth in single-season history with 636 points (31 games) as a sophomore and 604 as a junior, good for 10th on the single-season list.
A two-time WCC scoring leader, Lowhorn led the West Coast Conference in scoring for the second consecutive season in 2008-09 and captured the league scoring title in overall (20.1) and league games (19.1) for the second consecutive year. Lowhorn is the first player to lead the league in scoring in back-to-back seasons since Gonzaga's Jeff Brown did so from 1993-94.
The Texas Tech transfer and Bay Area native turned in a prolific sophomore campaign, leading the league in overall (20.5) and WCC (20.5) scoring - the first USF player to pace the league in scoring in both categories since John Cox accomplished the feat in 2004-05 (20.0/19.9). A 2008 Mid-Major All-American Lowhorn has posted at least 20 points in 51 career games, including a career-high 32 against Pepperdine (3/6/09). Lowhorn owns 11 career double-doubles.
Lowhorn enters the 2010 Zappos.com WCC Tournament just shy of 2,000 career combined points at 1,985. The fifth-year senior scored 230 as a true freshman at Texas Tech in 2005-06. Lowhorn has an outside chance at moving into the No. 3 spot on the USF career scoring list and needs 51 points to pass three-time All-WCC selection Darrell Tucker (1999-03), who scored 1,805 in his standout four-year career.
San Francisco enters the Zappos.com 2010 WCC Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will take on the winner of Friday's No. 5 Loyola Marymount vs. No. 8 Pepperdine contest Saturday at 6:00 PM at the Orleans Arena. The contest will be carried live on the flagship station of Dons Basketball Green 960 with Pat Olson and Jim Brovelli calling all the action from Las Vegas.
