USF OPENS WCC TOURNAMENT SATURDAY: San Francisco opens the 2010 Zappos.com West Coast Conference Tournament in the quarterfinals Saturday, March 6 when it takes on the winner of Friday's Loyola Marymount/Pepperdine first round game. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas in a game broadcast live on the flagship station of Dons Basketball Green 960 and will be available on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area Plus and ESPN 360. USF swept the season series against the Lions and split against the Waves.
DONS IN THE 2010 WCC SEASON:
- Senior forward Dior Lowhorn named to All-WCC First Team for third straight season
- USF more than doubled its 2009 league win tally (7) and averaged 69.4 ppg after scoring just 61.7 ppg last year
- USF's Bay Area products - Angelo Caloiaro (San Jose), Dior Lowhorn (San Francisco) & Kwame Vaughn (Oakland) combining for 39.8 points,14.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per league game
- USF out-rebounded opponents 34.9 - 32.6 rpg
- San Francisco went 4-1 in games decided by five points or less during WCC play
- Eight Dons have reached double-digit scoring and eight players collected at least five rebounds
- USF's 7-7 slate was tops since going 8-6 in 2007
LOWHORN COLLECTS A THIRD: Preseason All-American Dior Lowhorn made it three consecutive when the West Coast Conference unveiled its All-WCC Team on Monday. The senior forward becomes the 12th USF player selected to three first teams - the most in league history. The most recent was Darrell Tucker (1999-03). Former USF All-American Bill Cartwright is one of just four players to earn all-conference honors four times.
LOWHORN FOURTH ON SCORING LIST: Preseason All-American Dior Lowhorn continues to charge up the USF career scoring lists and became the 30th USF player to surpass 1,000 career points in the Green and Gold with 22 points at Portland (1/15/09). Lowhorn passed former USF All-American and NBA Don Winford Boynes (1975-78/1,702) for sole possession of fourth place on the list against Loyola Marymount (2/13/10). Lowhorn enters the 2010 Zappos.com West Coast Conference Tournament with 1,755 career points in 89 games for a 19.7 points per game average. Three-time All-WCC pick Darrell Tucker (1999-03) sits in third place with 1,805 points.
