Tucker Earns February WCC Player of the Month
March 6, 2003 San Francisco's Darrell Tucker earned WCC/Rawlings Player of the Month honors for February after leading the Dons to a 6-2 record in the month. Tucker only played in nine league games this season with eight of them after January. The 6'8" senior forward averaged 22.2 points, while shooting 55.7 percent (64-of-115) from the floor. Tucker also grabbed 7.5 rebounds per game, which ranked fourth in the WCC last month. The Oakland native got to the line for 36 free throws in eight contests, converting 31 to shoot 86.1 percent from the charity stripe. Tucker's return to the team boosted the Dons to the top three-point percentage in the league by shooting 54.3 percent from long distance the last eight games. Tucker was named the WCC/Rawlings Player of the Week three times for his play last month. Tucker shined away from home, as the Dons played five of their last seven games on the road. Last week against LMU and Pepperdine, Tucker tossed in 24 ppg, grabbed 7.5 caroms per game and handed out 2.5 assists to lead USF to a third place finish and the #3 seed in the WCC tournament held this week.
Tucker now has 1,768 points in his career at San Francisco, which ranks 14th on the WCC career scoring list behind former Gonzaga guard Matt Santangelo (1,810).
