(San Francisco) - Sophomore forward Dior Lowhorn capped one of the most prolific seasons in USF basketball history with a selection to the Mid-Major All-American team as announced today by CollegeHoops.net. Lowhorn was named to the honorable mention squad as selected by a national panel of staff writers. In just his first season at USF, Lowhorn paced the West Coast Conference in overall scoring (20.5) and in league contests (20.5), becoming the first Don to pace the circuit in both categories since John Cox accomplished the feat in 2004-05. For his efforts, Lowhorn captured WCC First Team selection - the first time a USF sophomore has been selected since Gerald Walker was tabbed in 1995. Lowhorn left a lasting impression on the USF single-season record books, sparking the Dons on a late season surge, finishing his standout sophomore campaign with 636 points, good for the fourth highest tally in a single season in USF history. In the 2008 WCC Tournament, Lowhorn passed Dons All-Americans Bill Cartwright (600/1976-77), Pete Cross (615/1968-69), Bill Russell (622/1954-55), Ollie Johnson (627/1964-65) and Winford Boynes (628/1977-78) on the single-season chart. The Texas Tech transfer scored at least 20 points in 18 games in 2007-08 and turned in six 19-point outings. Lowhorn currently ranks No. 27 among Division I scoring leaders as of March 24 - the first Don to crack the top-30 nationally since Cox achieved the feat during his senior campaign in 2004-05. The Texas Tech transfer also led the squad in rebounding (7.4), field goal percentage (.513) and blocked shots (28). Lowhorn poured in a career-high 30 points in his home debut against Sacramento State (11/17/07) en route to West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors. Lowhorn captured the 2008 Father William Dunne, S.J. Award presented to the team's most valuable player.
