University of San Francisco head basketball coach Philip Mathews today (May 13) announced that former St. Mary's College and El Cerrito High School star Jovan Harris has signed a letter of intent to play at the University of San Francisco this fall.

Harris had a successful first two years at St. Mary's where he was named West Coast Conference honorable mention and was the team's leading scorer as a sophomore in 2000-01. He averaged 15.1 points, 3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game before leaving the program to attend Contra Costa J.C. last year where he sat the year out. As a freshman Harris averaged 7.0 points per game for the Gaels.

"Jovan has played in the West Coast Conference for two seasons and has a good idea what it takes to play at this level," said Dons' head coach Phil Mathews. "We really think that he will fit our style of play." Harris will have two years of eligibility remaining at USF.
