Dons Lambast Lamar 69-43 in Men's Hoops
Ali Thomas scored 16 points and came within one of a school record for 3-pointers as San Francisco defeated Lamar, 69-43, on Tuesday. Thomas, a junior, made four 3-pointers in seven attempts to approach Gerald Walker's collegiate career record of 142 set between 1993-96. Kenyon Jones added 11 points and 11 rebounds as the Dons (3-1) won their third straight after opening the season with a loss to Maryland in the Preseason NIT. Thaydeus Holden scored 10 points to lead Lamar (2-2). San Francisco took advantage of Lamar's cold shooting--22.4 percent for the game--and held the Cardinals' leading scorer, Landon Rowe, to just seven points. San Francisco shot 52.2 percent for the game and outrebounded Lamar, 40-25. Lamar's Lewis Arline hit a basket with 16:36 remaining in the second half to cut the Dons lead to 37-25. But Lamar never got any closer. San Francisco went on an 11-4 run, highlighted by Thomas' third 3-pointer, to take control. James Lee and Darrell Tucker each scored 10 points for the Dons.
Lamar shot 20.7 percent in the first half, but went on a 12-4 run to close the gap to 33-21 just before halftime.
