Richard Yokota was hired as the assistant men's golf coach last season by head coach Gary Nelson after numerous years of coaching and playing experience. Most recently Yokota was the Director at Creative Links Golf School in Scotts Valley, CA from 2000-2002. At the Creative Links Golf School Yokota designed and led the instructional program at Valley Gardens Golf Club. Prior to this, Yokota was an instructor at Sonoma Mission Inn Golf School in Glen Allen, CA where he hosted small and large group three-day instructional schools at Sonoma Golf Course as well as providing golf clinics for both private and corporate outings. Along with his history of teaching golf, Yokota played for San Jose State University in 1988-1990. He has competed in the Nike, Asian, PGA, and Canadian tours and was the winner of 15 individual tournaments on the California and Golden State Tours. In 1989 and 1990 Yokota qualified for the U.S Amateur Championships and in 1996 he shot the third lowest round of 67 at the U.S Open, which was being played at Oakland Hills Country Club. Also in 1996, Yokota was named the California Tour Player of the year. At San Jose State University he studied Psychology and Behavioral Sciences. He completed his B.S. in Organizational Behavior and Leadership at USF. Along with several years of sales experience, he established his own independent insurance agency in 2005. He now resides in Piedmont, California with his wife Angela, and his son Ben. "Working with this program has already been very rewarding.
