(Santa Ana, CA) - USF men's golf kicked off its first event of the spring season at the 2008 Anteater Invitational Monday at the Santa Ana Country Club. The Dons shot 596 (302, 294), good for a share of fifth place along with West Coast Conference rival Portland (300, 296).

Santa Clara leads the 10-team field in the 28th annual event after shooting a 9-under total of 567 (286, 281) after 36 holes on Monday. UCI is second at 573 (289, 284) followed by Loyola Marymount in third at 576 (288, 288) and Idaho is fourth at 590 (304, 286).

Scott Travers of Santa Clara is the individual leader at 8-under 136 (68-68). UCI junior Sean Shahi is in second at 4-under 140 (70-70). Chris Cunningham was the top finisher for the Dons at 146 (74, 72), good for a share of 12th place heading into the final round. Kenny Adams sits in a logjam at 16th place at 147 (75, 72).

San Francisco looks to make up ground on the final 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday.
