The USF men's golf team shot a first round 306 to place fourth in the Hargrove Davis Spring Classic being held at Keith Hills Country Club No. 1 in Buies Creek, N.C. The Dons recorded low scores in the second round and are in position to take the lead when round two is completed.
Domingo Jojola of San Francisco and High Point's Ryan Wilson were the lone players to shoot par with 72s over the first round. Steve Ransom of Drexel and Army's Jimmy Fisher each finished the first round at one-over 73 on the par-72, 6703-yard layout. Liberty held a two-stroke lead Monday after the first round.
The Flames carded a 12-over 300 after 18 holes, two strokes better than High Point and three in front of host Campbell in the 15-school field. Not all of the teams were able to complete Monday's second round due to darkness. The second round of the 54-hole tournament will be completed Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., followed by the final 18.

Campbell University's spring men's golf tournament is named in the memory of the only coach to lead the Fighting Camels to a national championship in school history, Hargrove Bellamy Davis. The Wilmington native assumed duties as men's golf coach from 1969-77. During his tenure, Coach Davis led the team to six top-10 national finishes, including the school's only national championship, the 1970 NAIA crown. His golf teams finished second nationally in 1973, fourth in 1971 and 1975, fifth in 1972 and 10th in 1977, the final season before Campbell joined the NCAA Division I ranks. Davis was inducted posthumously into the Campbell Sports Hall of Fame in October 2001.
