USF Men's Golf Posts Runner-Up Finish at the 2010 Triumph at Pauma Valley

(Pauma Valley, CA) – USF men’s golf could not hold off a charging Central Arkansas squad and posted a runner-up finish at the 2010 Triumph at Pauma Valley Tuesday afternoon. After leading after 36-holes, the Dons struggled mightily on the front nine and could not slow down UCA which shot the low round of the day at 286 on the par-71 Pauma Valley Country Club course playing at 7,077 yards.
All competitors fought gusty winds throughout and extremely challenging pin placements. The average score for the final 18 was 79.51.
Senior Domingo Jojola paced the Dons with a third place showing at 220 (75, 70, 75) while fellow senior Chris Cunningham finished fourth at 221 (73, 72, 76) to lead five players to top-20 showings. Senior Connor McElyea shot 226 (77, 72, 77) for a share of 13th place, while sophomore Ji Hwan Park tied for 18th at 228 (75, 73, 80).
Park paced the Dons and ranked fourth in the field in birdies with nine, while Jojola added eight. Freshman Dash Lindsell ranked third in par holes with 35, while Cunningham was sixth with 32.
Central Arkansas won the event at 889 (296, 297, 296), five shots in front of runner-up San Francisco at 894 (299, 287, 308). Long Beach State took third at 895 (299, 299, 297), while Portland was fourth at 909 (307, 293, 309). Air Force rounded out the top-five teams at 917 (307, 306, 304).
Chris Whitney of Air Force won the event at 2-under 211 (73, 70, 68) and posted the low round of the tournament with a 3-under 68 on Tuesday. Steve Lecuyer of Central Arkansas captured runner-up honors at 2-over 215 (71, 72, 72
