(San Francisco) - Cal won the 2008 San Francisco Intercollegiate with an 861 Tuesday at the Olympic Club. Colorado used a late final round surge to close the gap, finishing at 869 after carding a 286 to secure runner-up honors.

UAB finished third at 876, while Oregon State and San Diego shared fifth place at 877. USF's `B' team finished eighth at 882, while the `A' team posted an 11th place showing. The Dons beat ancient West Coast Conference Bay Area rivals Santa Clara (900) and Saint Mary's (902).

"After a hiatus of 13 years, both USF and the Olympic Club experienced the joy of co-hosting a major intercollegiate tournament," USF head coach Dr. Gary Nelson said. "With teams attending from as far away Wisconsin, Connecticut and Alabama, The Olympic Club Lake Course proved once again why it is considered one of the very top golf courses in the country."

Cal's Michael Jensen (71, 70, 72) and Colorado's Derek Tolan (74, 69, 70) shared medalist honors at even-par 213. San Francisco's Chris Cunningham (70, 73, 71) and freshman Ji Hwan Park (71, 74, 69) were in a third place logjam at one-over 214. Paul Peterson (73, 74, 67) of Oregon State and Nevada's Scott Smith (70, 74, 70) also carded 214.

USF returns to action when it competes in the 2008 Oregon Duck Invitational beginning Monday September 22 at Trysting Tree Golf Course.
