USF Men's Golf Finishes 12th At Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic

(South Bend, IN) – USF men’s golf struggled on the final day at the 2009 Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic and finished the event in 12th place Tuesday at the Warren Golf Course. The Dons shot 303 on the last 18 holes of the challenging par-70 course playing at 7,023 yards.
Senior Chris Cunningham led the Dons at 11-over 221 (73, 73, 75) and tied for 21st place. Sophomore Ji Hwan Park also posted a top-25 finish, sharing 24th place at 222 (74, 73, 75), while senior Jesse Galvon tied for 28th at 223 (72, 76, 75). Josh Sandman took medalist honors for the Irish at 2-over 212 (70, 68, 74).
Tournament host Notre Dame won the event on its home course at 870 (290, 288, 292), four shots in front of second-place Ohio State at 874 (288, 303, 283). Iowa at 590 (297, 293). No. 20 Arkansas (295, 299, 286) finished third at 878 followed in fourth place by Texas-Arlington at 883 (300, 298, 285). Lamar rounded out the top-five teams att 884 (297, 296, 291).
USF men’s golf returns to action when it competes in the 2009 Alistair MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by Cal, beginning Monday, October 12 at the Meadow Club.
