USF Men's Golf Finishes 10th at 2008 Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic

(South Bend, IN) - USF men's golf shot a 296 in Tuesday's final round of the 2008 Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, hosted by Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Course. The Dons claim 10th place in the event featuring a strong field.

San Francisco shot 899 (308, 295, 296) on the par-70 course playing at 7,023 yards. The Dons posted a five shot victory against West Coast Conference rival San Diego and beat tournament host Notre Dame by 11 strokes on the Irish' home course.

Senior Kurt Nino led the way for the Dons on the final day with a two-over 72. Junior Domingo Jojola was the top finisher for USF at 222 (74, 74, 74), good for a share of 22nd place, while junior Chris Cunningham was in a logjam at 29th place at 224 (76, 73, 75).

Arkansas won the event at 863, four shots in front of tournament runner-up UC Davis at 867. Michigan State was third at 871, Minnesota was fourth at 874m while Lamar rounded out the top-five at 879.

USF returns to action when it competes in the 2008 Xavier Invitational, beginning Monday, October 13.
