Dons Finish Eleventh in Alister MacKenzie Invitational After Carding 294

The USF men's golf team shot a final round 294, the second best round of the day, to finish eleventh in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif. with a 54 hole total of 867.

USF was able to gain three spots in the final standings after a rough first round. The Dons were paced by Kenny Adams who finished with a 213, Jessie Galvon who scored 216, and Domingo Jojola's 221.

"I was proud of the team and the way that battled back, said Dons' head coach Dr. Gary Nelson. "Domingo, after that tough first day, shot par today in really tough conditions. Kenny Adams, a newcomer to the team had a good tournament finishing with at par for the event.

"Today the wind was blowing and the greens were firmer so everyone's scores went a lot higher. It was a good accomplishment to pass a few teams, we just couldn't overcome the poor first round.

"But we gained a lot of experience that will be valuable. We played one newcomer, two sophomores and two freshmen. Both of the freshmen has rounds that scored. They also learned that the third round of three is difficult."

California won the event with an 826, 16 strokes better than San Jose State.

USF is next in action at the Santa Clara Invitational on October 23rd.
