Men's Golf Opens Spring Season in Utah
Feb. 5, 2007
The USF men's golf team will open its spring season on February 12th when they visit Southern Utah's Pat Hicks Invitational at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah.
The field is expected to include Jacksonville, McNeese State, Nicholls State, Oral Roberts, Colorado State, Denver, Boise State, Idaho State, Portland, Washington State, San Francisco, Utah State, Utah, Dixie State, Nevada, Grand Canyon and the host Thunderbirds.
The spring schedule will be highlighted by the USF Triumph Invitational that is being held at Pauma Valley (San Diego) beginning March 12th. The WCC Championships are April 16-17 at Lompac.
"This spring we have again upped the level of competition in the tournaments in which we are entered, said head coach Dr. Gary Nelson. "Still, I think that we will continue to improve our national ranking.
"An invitation to the National tournament is within our grasp, a year earlier than I had predicted.
"I couldn't be associated with a finer group of young men - every one of them has improved their stroke average significantly since they entered USF while maintaining a team 3.20 GPA. That is with a Pre- Med, two Pre-Law, and seven Bussiness majors on the squad. It is a coach's dream," he concluded.
