Despite struggling to a final round 293 (+5), the Brigham Young Cougars held on to win the William H. Tucker Invitational Saturday afternoon at the UNM Championship Golf Course. The victory was the second straight for the Cougars at the Tucker, who have now won the event 11 times in its 46-year history (only Houston has won more often at 13 times). BYUs team total of 861 (-3) was two shots better than UNLV, which shot 863 (-1), including 286 (-2) in the final round. Arizona was third at 865 (+1) and host New Mexico was fourth at 871 (+7). The Cougars Billy Harvey shot a final round 70 (-2) to walk away with medalist honors, as he carded a three-round total of 207 (-9), four strokes ahead of UNLVs Calvin Kupeyan.

BYU held a nine-stroke lead heading into the final 18 holes, following the completion of the suspended second round early Saturday. The teams completed their round this morning after darkness forced the suspension Friday night. After second round action, BYU was at 568 (-8), while UNLV was at 577 (+1), followed by Arizona (580, +4) and UNM (581, +5). The Cougars were paced by Manuel Merizaldes 68 (-4) in the third round, allowing him to finish T3rd. UNLVs comeback attempt was led by a 69 from Scott Lander and 72 each by Kupeyan and Travis Whisman. USF placed 19th in the event with Fernando Gomez 226 (+10) the lowest score.
