USF Men's Golf Set to Compete at the 2006 Alister MacKenzie Invitational

(San Francisco, CA) - USF men's golf will take a trip across the bay to compete at the Fifth Annual Alister MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by Cal. The tournament will begin on Monday, October 9 with 36 holes and the final round will be played Tuesday, October 10 on the par-71 Meadow Club course located in Fairfax, CA.
Sophomore Domingo Jojola paced the Dons earlier this week at the 2006 Northwest Collegiate Classic, held October 2-3 in Corvallis, Oregon. Jojola posted a 216 (76, 69, 71), good for a share of third place individually, and USF finished in second place at 876 (296, 291, 289) trailing Oregon (867). Junior Kenny Adams and sophomore Jesse Galvon also enjoyed solid rounds for the Dons, posting 220 (76, 71, 73) and 223 (74, 78, 71), respectively.
The Dons have overpowered every West Coast Conference competitor they have faced this fall season. USF outplayed Portland and Gonzaga at the 2006 Purple and Red Invitational, held September 18-19, finishing 10 strokes ahead of the Pilots and 11 strokes in front of the Bulldogs. At the Northwest Classic, the Dons finished with a five strokes lead over St. Mary's, an impressive 19 strokes in front of San Diego and increased their lead over Portland to 24 strokes.
USF will look to continue this successful streak against WCC teams when they face Santa Clara and St. Mary's in Fairfax. The Dons will also get another chance to catch Oregon among the collegiate field, including Cal Poly, Fresno State, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Penn State, San Jose State, UC Davis, UC Irvine and Washington State.
"I am extremely proud of our accomplishments so far this season and we look forward to playing in front of friends and alumni next week. There is no doubt we will be looking for the win," head coach Gary Nelson said.
