USF Men's Golf Ready to Compete at the 2006 Santa Clara Invitational

(San Francisco, CA) - USF men's golf is set to compete at the 2006 Santa Clara Invitational at the Silver Creek Country Club in San Jose, CA. The tournament will begin with two rounds on Monday, October 23 and the final round will be played Tuesday, October 24. The Dons will be led by junior Kenny Adams and sophomore Jesse Galvon.
"Our assistant coach, Rich Yukota, is excited to be traveling with the team to San Jose and assuming full coaching responsibilities. Rich has had an excellent career as a professional golfer and his course management skills will be invaluable to the players competing in this event," said head coach Gary Nelson.
USF will again have a chance to face Bay Area rival and host Santa Clara, who recently finished four strokes ahead of the Dons at the 2006 Alister MacKenzie Invitational, held October 9-10.
The remaining collegiate field will include Boise State, Portland, Sacramento State, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, UCLA, Utah Valley State, Hartford, British Columbia, Birmingham Southern, Idaho, Idaho State, Loyola Marymount and some individual players from Stanford.
At the 2005 Santa Clara Invitational, the Dons finished sixth with an overall score of 892 (300, 299, 293) among the 13 teams competing. In the final round, USF posted the third lowest score of the day and was led by Domingo Jojola, who carded seven birdies for a final round score of an even-par 72 and a total score of 224 (77, 75, 72). Jesse Galvon posted USF's lowest tournament score with a 221 (73, 75, 73), good for a share of 17th place.
