Freshman Jesse Galvon's Diary on the Road at SCU Invitational
Oct. 25, 2005
Freshman Jesse Galvon reports on USF's journey to the Santa Clara Classic in San Jose. Galvon has USF's low score finishing 17th in the event.
Sunday - We got to the course around noon, after warming up for a couple hours we headed out onto the course for our practice round. Everyone seemed to be hitting it well and we were all working as a team trying to figure out how to play the course correctly. We finished up the round and went out for dinner. After a quick team meeting we all went to sleep because we all were dreading that 5.45am wake up call.
Monday- After grabbing some breakfast we headed out to the course. We got there only 20 minutes before our tee times. The team scrambled to get warmed up and thankfully the tee times were pushed back about 15 minutes. It was a very cold morning and the scores showed it to start. In the afternoon the team played better and moved up some places in the tournament. Moses and I both scored a 148 and Kurt Nino had a 151, with Domingo Jajola closely behind him with a 152. The team went out for dinner that night and shared some stories and laughs. Again coach had us in bed early getting ready for the next day.
Tuesday- I knew today was going to be a better day for the team and it was. We ended up shooting the 3rd lowest score that day. Domingo shot a solid 72 with seven birdies finishing tied for 22nd and I finished up my tournament with a 73 finishing tied for 17th. Taylor Hobin and Kurt Nino both shot 74 helping the team finish in 6th place overall.
In today's round I wasn't hitting the ball very well but coach Nelson, or Doc Dre as the freshman call him was helping me read my putts. I was making everything. After the round one of the guys I was playing with went up to my coach and asked if he could come down to his next tournament to help him, I overheard this conversation and told the player jokingly that he was taken. Overall our team is improving and we are looking forward to our next tournament in Hawaii starting November 6th,
