Sept. 26, 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - USF men's soccer dropped a 2-0 result at No. 6 Cal Friday night in non-conference action at Edwards Stadium. The Dons (1-5-1) created scoring opportunities but just could not find the back of the net against the Golden Bears' (5-1-2) bend but don't break defense. USF attempted six shots in both halves and held a 12-8 advantage in the match, with five of them on goal. Cal keeper Stephen Frei turned away the Dons all night, recording five saves for the shutout. Andrew Wiedeman put the Bears on the board in the 71st minute on a rebound off the crossbar. The next tally was on an own goal in the 75th minute. Senior goalkeeper Jeremy Coupe took the loss for the Dons. "I'm very disappointed with the loss," USF head coach Erik Visser said. "We felt we were the better team, especially in the first half. Unfortunately we were unable to sustain it for 90 minutes. We created some good chances, but just could not convert. We did some good things tonight, but we just have to continue to work on finishing as we head into the West Coast Conference campaign." Junior forward Conor Chinn fired a team-high four shots, three on frame, while junior midfielder Jonathan Levi and sophomore forward Jonathan McMullen each added a pair for the Dons. San Francisco returns to action when it opens the 2008 West Coast Conference season on the road in the Pacific Northwest at Gonzaga and Portland, beginning Friday, October 3 against the Bulldogs at Gonzaga Soccer Field. Kick-off is set for 3:00 PM.
