Final Stats

(Los Angeles) - USF started strong, but could not finish and dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Loyola Marymount in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams Friday afternoon at Sullivan Field. The Dons (3-4-1; 0-1-0 WCC) squandered a 2-0 lead against the Lions (6-3-0, 1-0-0 WCC), who seized their second straight win in the series.

USF looked to be control nearly from the start in this one as senior All-American Conor Chinn opened scoring with a strike from 25 yards out off a feed from junior Rafai Eddy. It was the team-leading fifth goal of the season for Chinn who now has 22 goals in his last 26 matches and has scored a remarkable 15 goals in his last 13 league contests.

San Francisco took a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the second half off the first career goal for senior defender Justin Kendro off a feed from Victor Wennberg. Sadly for the Dons it was all Lions from there as LMU scored three unanswered goals to take the WCC opener from the defending champions.

John Ikard was first in the 57th minute, Rafael Baca scored his fifth goal of the season in the 87th for the equalizer and Phil Da Silva added the decisive strike in the 99th minute. LMU held a dominating 23-11 shots advantage after the Dons held a 10-5 edge entering the intermission.

Freshman goalkeeper Brendan Roslund suffered the loss for the Dons and made a career-high nine saves. Max Young collected the win and recorded one save on the night for the Lions.

USF continues its Southern California WCC road trip Sunday with a matinee at San Diego. Match time against the Toreros is set for 2:00 PM at Torero Stadium.

NOTES: Match was the fourth consecutive overtime contests for USF and Dons are now 1-2-1 in overtime this season... Back-to-back wins are the first for LMU against USF in since winning two straight from 2001-02 before the league returned to double-round robin play... USF retains a 21-5-1 edge in the all-time series dating to 1988.
