Final Stats

(San Francisco) - USF scored first, but Saint Mary's scored three unanswered goals to seize a 3-1 West Coast Conference victory Friday night at Negoesco Stadium. The Dons (3-6-1, 2-1-0 WCC) saw their two-game winning streak halted by the Gaels (3-6-1, 2-1-0 WCC), who won their second straight contest.

USF held a modest 13-9 shots edge, but could not find the back of the net at the right time. Junior midfielder Jonathan Levy fired a match-high three shots for USF.

Chinn scored his fifth goal of the season in the 22nd minute, beating two defenders and firing a shot to the far post for the right flank to give the Dons a 1-0 advantage. For Chinn it was his third straight match with a scoring strike.

Unfortunately for the Dons, it was all Gaels from there as Tom Mahoric tallied the equalizer in the 35th minute - his first of the season - off a feed from Justin Kim and then added the game-winner in the 60th minute. Erik Rivas added an insurance goal in the 76th minute.

"This was an embarrassing loss," USF head coach Erik Visser said. "Except for the first 22 minutes, Saint Mary's was hungrier and wanted it more than we did. It's disappointing to come off a successful road trip and play poorly at home. We need a better week of practice to prepare for two tough WCC opponents next week."

Senior goalkeeper Jeremy Coupe made three saves on the night, but suffered the loss for the Dons. While Jason Badger made three saves for Saint Mary's to earn the victory. Before Mahoric's first goal, Coupe and the Dons had not allowed a goal since the 71st minute at Cal September 26 - a span of 253:48.

USF looks to bounce back next Friday when it welcomes San Diego to the Hilltop for a critical home match. Game time against the Toreros is set for 7:00 PM at Negoesco Stadium.
